Today 8th March is World Women's Day, on which we remember the contribution of women. He encouraged them to move forward. Today we will learn about India's first female doctor Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi on the day of World Women's Day.

Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi is known as India’s first female doctor. Because she was the first Indian woman to become a doctor from Western medicine for the first time.

She completed her medical studies in the United States of America after living there for two years. She was the first woman from the then Bombay Presidency of India to graduate in medicine.

Life of Anandibai Gopalrao Joshi

•Anandibai was born on 31 March 1865 in Kalyan, Bombay Presidency, British India.
• Her childhood name is Yamuna, which was given by her parents at birth.
• His father was Ganpatrao and mother Amriteshwar Joshi, both of them belonged to a Marathi Chitpavan Brahmin family.
• Due to pressure from parents, she was married at the age of 9 to widower Gopalrao Joshi. Gopalrao Joshi was a postal clerk in Kalyan by profession.
•Anandibai became a mother only at the age of 14 and she gave birth to a boy. However, the boy survived for a total of 10 days without medical supervision. From this came an important step in his life and he stepped forward to become a doctor.
•Anandibai died on 26 February 1887 at the age of 21 in Pune, Bombay Presidency, British India. He was diagnosed with tuberculosis, doctors tried hard to save him. But she could not escape.

• Her husband Gopalrao Joshi tried to get her admitted to the Christian Missionary School for studies. But he failed. After that he took them to Kolkata. Where Anandibai learned to speak Sanskrit and English.
